Rynah Beneficiation Plant
Established in 2025, Rynah Beneficiation plant is a state-of-the-art chrome beneficiation plant located in Buffelspoort NW on the LDL complex, the complex houses the Plant, Commodex Mine (which provides ROM for the Rynah Beneficiation Plant) and Sunflower Farm. The Rynah Beneficiation Plant is currently able to produce more then 30 tons per hour of high grade concentrate above 40% and is staffed with 20 dedicated staff working two shifts daily to guarantee round the clock production.
The chrome beneficiation process primarily uses magnetic separation to recover valuable minerals from ore. This process is particularly effective for chrome ore containing magnetic minerals, such as magnesium chromite and aluminum chromite. Beneficiation Process using Magnetic Separation
1. Crushing and Grinding: The chrome ore is first crushed and ground into smaller particles to liberate the chromite from the gangue materials.
2. Magnetic Separation: The ground material undergoes magnetic separation, which typically involves the following steps:
• Strong Magnetic Separation: This step targets the removal of magnetic minerals from the non-magnetic waste. Here, wet or dry magnetic separators can be used depending on the moisture content.
• Tailings Processing: The non-magnetic tailings can be processed further to recover any residual chromite using different methods, if desired.
3. Concentration: The separated magnetic fractions are then concentrated, resulting in high-grade chrome concentrates typically exceeding 40% Cr2O3.
4. Dewatering and Drying: Finally, the concentrate is dewatered and dried before being packaged for dispatch to clients. The ferrochrome industry is a critical sector for South Africa, which is one of the largest producers of ferrochrome globally. Ferrochrome is primarily used in stainless steel production, and the demand for it is closely linked to global stainless steel demand.
• Future Needs: Over the next decade, China's demand for stainless steel is expected to increase, projected to drive further demand for ferrochrome. Factors like urbanization, infrastructure development, and increased production capacity will likely amplify this trend. Analysts predict that South Africa will continue to play a crucial role in supplying the necessary ferrochrome to meet the anticipated growth in China's steel industry. In summary, the Rynah Beneficiation Plant not only contributes to high-grade chrome production but also plays an integral role in the thriving ferrochrome industry that supports both local and international markets.
